Freestyle swimmer at dawn on open water

Swim free.Learn freestyle.

Private coaching for adults who want to learn properly — or finally let go of what's been holding them back in the water.

Who this is for

Most adults who struggle in water were simply never taught well.

They learned as children, badly. Or never learned at all. Or had a moment in the water — a scare, a panic — that stayed with them. Many have tried lessons since and still felt like something essential was missing.

Swim Free works with adults at all levels — complete beginners, anxious swimmers, people who've avoided water for years. And with people who can swim but never felt free doing it.

The approach

Breath and body first.
Technique follows.

In the water with you

Jean doesn't coach from the side. He gets in. Hands-on guidance, real-time feedback — a presence in the water that changes how quickly you learn, especially if the water has ever frightened you.

Breath before stroke

Most programmes skip this. Breathing in water is a skill — and when it isn't working, nothing else can. Every session starts here, until it feels natural.

Balance and ease

Freestyle isn't about force. It's about letting the water hold you — floating, rotating, gliding. The foundations most adult swimmers were never given.

Toward open water

The pool is a starting point. The aim is to swim freely — in the sea, in a lake, wherever you want to go. Sessions build toward that, at your pace.

In his own words

What this has always been about.

Return to water

Reach. Rotate. Pull. Breathe. Feel your body glide and the water carry you. Let the water find you.

Return home

Master the life skill that brings you home. Be capable. Be confident. You belong here.

Return to self

Let the water guide you. Become present to your body, your movement, the water in you. Come home.

Jean

A coach who works from the inside out.

Jean's background spans mindfulness teaching, breath coaching, and Total Immersion swimming — a combination that shapes everything about how he works with people in the water.

He's precise about technique and patient about fear. His sessions are quiet and focused, built around what's actually happening for each person — not a fixed programme.

He works in the pool and, for those ready for it, in open water. He prefers the sea.

Questions

A few things people usually ask.

Is it too late to learn as an adult? +
No. Adults learn differently to children — more deliberately, more self-consciously — but not worse. The method here is built for adult learners. People in their fifties and sixties learn to swim properly here.
I've tried lessons before and they didn't work. +
That's very common. Most adult swimming programmes aren't designed for adults who struggle. They skip the breath work and body awareness that actually unlock everything else. That's usually what was missing.
I'm afraid of the water. +
Jean works with this regularly. Fear in water is physical and real — it's not a character flaw. His mindfulness and breath background means he knows how to work with the nervous system, not push through it.
I had a bad experience in water. +
That's something to mention when you first speak. Jean takes it seriously and works around it carefully. The first conversation happens before you're anywhere near a pool.
How many sessions will it take? +
It varies too much to say generally. Most people notice a real shift within a handful of sessions. The initial conversation gives a clearer picture for your situation.
Where do sessions take place? +
Location to be confirmed — pool and open water options.
